Agrowill Group expanding its farmland area and expecting to earn from crops

2010-11-12

Agrowill Group, one of the largest agricultural companies in the Baltic states, has expanded its farmland area by another 300 ha this year. The company has leased the additional 300 ha of land. It currently controls a total of some 32,000 hectares of cultivated land.
“We are seeking to increase the area of controlled land by 20-25%. Therefore, we have already concluded new lease agreements on almost 300 additional hectares this autumn. The area of land is being expanded in an effort to intensify production and reduce the cost of grain,” Algirdas Pereckas, General Manager of Agrowill Group, said.
According to Pereckas, both the present and the new plots of land will be sown with cereals and oilseed rape. These crops have been chosen in view of global demand trends. Wheat and oilseed rape prices are constantly rising.
In the words of the head of the company, Agrowill Group is concentrating larger areas of land in one place, thus ensuring more efficient use of machinery and manpower. For this purpose, the company has extended lease agreements on 1,000 ha and has leased 100 ha of its land, the cultivation of which would be inefficient for the company, to third parties. According to Pereckas, the concentration of larger areas of land will facilitate rational planning of crop rotation, optimal fertilisation and management of fields, thus reducing the cost of production.
The head of Agrowill Group said that the company led by him would seek to buy fertilisers and other necessary agrochemicals directly from producers in the nearest future, avoiding intermediaries and thus reducing the cost of crop production.
In the first eight months of this year, Agrowill Group earned a profit of 0.347 million. The company’s turnover in the respective period made up LTL 27.042 million and EBITDA totalled LTL 11.694 million.
